Melanie Lynskey
Melanie Jayne Lynskey ( born 16 May 1977) is a New Zealand actress. Her work is known for its portrayals of complex women and her command of American dialects, she works mostly in independent film. Lynskey has been the recipient of two Critics’ Choice Awards, an HCA Award and a Gracie. She also won a New Zealand Film Award and an Hollywood Film Award.
Lynskey made her screen debut in Heavenly Creatures (1994), earning an New Zealand Film Award for her portrayal of teenage murderess Pauline Parker. The actress later appeared in several international films, including Ever After (1998), Detroit Rock City, But I'm a Cheerleader The Cherry Orchard (all 1999), Coyote Ugly (2000), Snakeskin (2001), Shooters, Abandon, and Sweet Home Alabama (all 2002). Lynskey was known as a character actor after having moved to the United States. She is most well-known for her roles in a variety of large-budget and small-scale films which include Shattered Glass (2003) and Flags of Our Fathers (2006).
Lynskey was nominated for the Gotham Award in 2012 for her character as a divorced, depressed woman in Hello I Must Be Going. This was a major turn in her career. Later, she was a lead in The Big Ask (2013), Happy Christmas, We'll Never Have Paris, Goodbye to All That (all 2014), The Intervention, Rainbow Time, Little Boxes (all 2016) I'm not at In This World Anymore, And Then I Go (both 2017), Sadie (2018), and Lady of the Manor (2021) established her as an influential figure in the American independent film scene.
